If you want to live longer than 70 years old, eat less meat and eat more fish and vegetables. Fight the free radicals. Each cell has hundreds of mitochondria, a source of energy nutrition. Howerver, mitochondria is composed of free radicals. These are the molecules that cause inflammation and cell damage. It is best to consume foods rich in flavonoids, carotenoids and antioxidants such as blueberries, grapes and tomatoes. These delicious and colorful foods help lessen the inflammation.
Many of us are meat lovers and we tend to eat more of it than fish. We get a lot of saturated fats from meat. These fats inclease LDL commonly known as “bad” cholesterol which is one of the major causes of heart disease. It lessens the production of protein in our body which may lead to cancer. It is best to consume foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids. The omega-3 comes from fish and it lessens the inflammation, increases lubrication and lessens the risk of atherosclerosis and clogged arteries. It strengthens our immunity, decreases menopausal discomfort and a good memory enhancer. Taking fish oil supplements containing omega-3 prolongs our lives.
Take a tablet of aspirin daily. When my FIL suffered from heart attack years ago, which led to a multiple by-pass operation, his cardiologist advised him to take one tablet of aspirin daily. What most of us don’t know is taking 162 mg. of aspirin everyday decreases the risk of heart attack by 36% and it also lessens the risk of colon, esophageal and throat cancers. There are no reported serious side effects of aspirin except for minor stomach upsets.
