Broken Lipstick

You just bought a new lipstick but while applying the lipcolor, it breaks!  Don’t throw it out just yet.  My mom told me what to do with broken lipstick, here’s how, remove the broken piece with a tissue, then wave a lit match beneath [make sure though the tissue doesn't catch the flame].  As soon as the lipstick softens, put it back on the base, swivel the tube down and pop it in the fridge for 5 minutes.  The chill will set the mold and you saved yourself from buying a new one.

Stressed? Just Press!

Mommies are on call 24/7, so when you’re tired and feeling down because of the never-ending chores, acupressure is the answer.  Using two fingertips, try to press firmly on the center of your breastbone ( or what we all “the sea of tranquility”).  This point regulates the thymus gland, the organ that secretes immune-boosting hormones.  It is alright to press more for a few minutes, and when you’re done, you’ll be invigorated against the stress signals that wreak havoc on your health.

On Menopause….

I turned forty last August and the thought of menopause is starting to dawn on me.  Ooops, don’t get me wrong, I am not afraid to grow old ;) .  It’s just that I’ve heard many stories from other women about hot flashes, mood swings and the many changes in life when you reach this stage.  I want to be ready for it when it comes so I started reading about it.  Here are some tips I got from the article of Sanirose Orbeta, a nutritionist.

Master your weight.  Menopause is so associated with weight gain, even among women who never had a problem with weight before.  They often gain weight at this time but it probably has more to do with age than anything else.  It is advisable to go on a safe and scientific weight loss program.  Metabolism slows with age primarily because the body begins to lose energy-building muscles.  Exercises like aerobics, brisk walking and yoga can help a lot.

Master the taste of eating right.  Choose more from high-complex carbohydrate varieties like rice, bread, pasta, noodles, corn and potatoes.  Limit the intake of simple sugars like sweet desserts and pastries.  Have moderate amounts of protein foods.  Beans, mongo, tofu, nuts and legumes won’t do you any good so if possible, stay away from them.  Pork, skinless chicken and beef trimmed of fat are good sources of iron.  Avoid dairy products like butter, creams and mayonnaise, they are high in saturated fats.  Have plenty of fruits and vegetables to get the necessary vitamins, minerals and fiber.  Keep yourself hydrated.

Master safe dietary supplements.  Be very cautious in taking vitamins and mineral supplements.  Getting enough calcium and Vitamin D is good for bone health.  While alternative medicines are widely acceptable, they are not to be used indiscriminately.

If you’re about to start your menopausal or post-menopausal years, mastering these basic skills can help you deal with this stage with grace, serenity and style.

Celebrating Women Power

March obviously is the women’s month.  This is the month where women from around the globe stood up for their rights.  Hopefully, tomorrow on Women’s Day,  we will not only recognize the achievements of famous women but give credit to the silent majority who played important roles in our lives.   To all of you beautiful women HAPPY BEAUTIFUL WOMEN’S MONTH!
