Becoming a mom is the best thing that’s ever happened to me.  I’m proud that I was able to raise two good kids.  They are are God-fearing, kind and very loving.  I love the way they have reminded me how wonderful life is.

I have met so many wonderful moms here in the blogosphere and I find it hard to just nominate a few.  I am sharing this wonderful award with all my mom friends.  Please feel free to post this on your blogs but let me know so I can visit you.

For dry, chapped hands

Being a mom means you are on call 24/7.  We are often stressed and overworked.  But we can’t complain, can we?  We always make sure our family is getting the best and we often wash our hands to make sure everything we prepare for them is clean.   The result… DRY, CHAPPED HANDS.  Did you know what works best for this?  Olive oil.  It has oleic acid, a nourishing fatty acid that can penetrate even the deepest epidermal layer.  The oil is packed with vitamin E which helps protect the skin from free radicals which can lead to premature aging.  Now, let me slather a few drops of olive oil on my dry hands before I start blogging and go over Brazil vacation packages hubs has asked me to check.

Back to School Tips

School resumed last Tuesday, and if your kids are like my son who needs to pay more attention in school, here are some tips to keep them ahead of the class. START THE DAY WITH A GOOD BREAKFAST. Kids need an energy boost after a long night’s sleep. Studies show that a whole-grain and fiber-filled breakfast cereal helps improve children’s attentiveness by nearly 20%. HELP KEEP YOUR CHILD FOCUSED on schoolwork and not their grumbling tummies by incorporating more whole grain and fiber into their diets. Both help slow down the digestion process and may contribute to a feeling of being full. MAKE SLEEP A PRIORITY. Lack of sleep may impact a child’s performance both in school and at home. Make sure your kids get at least 8 hours of sleep each night to help them do their best everyday.

Tribute to Moms

This one came from Imelda.  Thank you sis, you are so sweet.  I hope you are having a great mothers’ day too.  I’m sharing this with all my mommy friends.  HAPPY MOTHERS’ DAY!!!

Today is Mother’s Day. I received a lot of greetings from kids, relatives and friends here and abroad. I am so grateful for the well wishers. Lucky are those whose mothers are alive. I am equally lucky, too because my mother still shines her guiding light through me and my kids. To her, i write this tribute:

A woman has strengths that amaze men.
She can handle troubles and carry heavy burdens.
She holds happiness, love and opinions.
She smiles when she feels like screaming.
She sings when she feels like crying.
Cries when she’s happy and laughs when she’s afraid.
Her hand molds children’s future.
She suffers in silence for the sake of the family.
Her love is unconditional.
MOTHER, YOU ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD!

A Thankful Mom

I am sorry if I am getting back to your comments and entrecard drops only now. So many things have happened yesterday and when I finally found time to blog, I had to catch up on all my dues. I’ve had a long day yesterday, and last night I had the fright of my life.

I was tending the store when a cab pulled over in front. I wasn’t minding it at all because I was busy. When the door opened I saw Gian [my daughter's bestfriend], she was so pale and she looked so scared. She then waved at me and told me that Mai [my daughter] fainted. My heart started pounding so hard and called on to my husband for help. He got her out of the cab and gave her first aid. A few minutes later, she woke up. She looked pale and very weak, but I knew she’s alright.

It was a heat stroke. The heat was terrible yesterday and she doesn’t like drinking water. i have always been reminding my kids to drink water, lots of it. But, she’d rather have a soda than to drink water. Now she learned her lesson. Sometimes, you really have to laern things the hard way. I am just so thankful that she wasn’t alone when it happened, Gi was there. It is so disappointing though that nobody even bothered to help them when Mai fainted. [sigh]

Artificial Sweeteners

For the past years, artificial sweeteners like Splenda and Equal have become so popular to diabetics and dieters alike. It’s been tempting to use these non-calorie sweeteners to whittle waistlines. According to my dad’s doctor, my father is diabetic, by the way, the “sucralose” which is the main ingredient of splenda, can affect the body’s ability to control blood sugar levels. Thus, creating symptoms like brain fog and lethargy. The sucralose can concentrate in the thymus gland and gastrointestinal tract which can disrupt your energy level and immunity. Instead of using artificial sweeteners, he suggests using natural alternatives like stevia, agave cactus nectar and date sugar. In as little as 3 days, these natural sweeteners can stabilize blood sugar.

Artificial sweeteners have also been linked to poor memory. According to one article I found, these chemicals are thought to impair the signaling that locks key details into the memory center of the brain. Sucralose can also be found in some non-food products like toothpaste. After reading about it, I immediately checked my toothpaste brand [colgate] and was relieved to see that it doesn’t contain sucralose. As mommies, we should really be careful to read the labels of the food and non-food products we buy for our family. So the next time you do your groceries, read the labels.

*** I searched the internet for these natural alternatives and these are what I found: Stevia is 100 to 400 times sweeter than conventional white sugar and is extracted from South American Herb. It is available in powder and liquid form, contains no calories and does not upset blood sugar. One teaspoon of this is equal to a cup of sugar. Agave is a plant that is processed into tequila and Agave nectar is a juice extracted from the plant. The nectar is sweeter than white sugar and can be substituted for honey. Date sugar comes from dehydrated dates, and because they were just dehydrated, all the vitamins and minerals found in fresh dates are still there. Why they are better? They are rich in nutrients and easy on your blood sugar.
